Cool Days Are Made for Reading with Friends

Cool Days Are Made for Reading with Friends

The leaves are falling, the temperatures are cooler so what better way to spend a warm cozy afternoon than with a good book!  I know I love the cooler days because it means no yard work, but on the couch with my book. So while the weather is changing, why not stop by the Adams County Library Friend’s of the Library located on the first floor near the Baltimore Street entrance and browse the many great selections of books for sale.

Ellen Smith, the Friend’s of the Library Book Store Manager, has put together a great group of books for purchase.  The store is always so inviting and there is always a great selection of fiction (hardback and paperback), DVD’s, Large Print, and Children’s/Young Adult books.  If history is your game, Ellen always has numerous ones to choose from, especially, need I say, Civil War.  There is also a shelf of Classics.  If you are more interested in crafts, cookbooks, antiquing, or home improvements, you will find it in the store too.  Ellen also displays unique books along the wall as you walk in…so you never know what you might find.

The Book Store is made possible by book donations from you and your neighbors, which is a great way to help support your library.  In addition, you can become a member of the Friends of the Library by joining for a nominal fee.  With just a $20 donation you become a member of the Friends and automatically receive a 20% discount on all books, DVD’s, magazines, etc. at the Book Store.  Your membership helps Adams County Library Systems provide our libraries with continuing services in technology, books, music, and children’s programs.  You will receive a newsletter three times a year giving you information and news about upcoming events, as well as articles on library personnel and volunteers.

Speaking of upcoming events, did you know that the Friends of the Library is participating in the 2014 Holiday Fair, December 13, 2014 at the Gettysburg Area High School from 9-2pm?  We will have holiday books on crafts, children’s books and much more. These make great Christmas gift ideas for your entire family.  Please drop by and check us out at the Holiday Fair!

I am proud member of the Friends of the Library because I believe the library plays such an integral part in the Gettysburg and Adams County communities. A strong and vibrant library, promoting lifelong reading and learning, allow our communities to offer an essential quality of life, too often taken for granted, now and into the future.

See you at the Library!
